Opening Keynote

From Lithospheric to Near Surface scales: Geophysical Imaging of the Santorini Volcanic Complex and its Implications for Volcanic and Seismic Hazard Assessment

Date:

21 September 2026

Time:

09:00 - 10:30

Room:

Dione

The presentation focuses on the contribution of multi-scale geophysical imaging of Santorini, primarily using seismic methods, which have provided important insights into the Santorini volcanic complex. Discussing the lithospheric-scale tomographic studies that have helped constrain the geometry and geophysical properties of the Southern Aegean subduction system and its mantle wedge, where Santorini volcanism originates. Exploring the upper crustal depths, presenting results from active seismic studies, including the large-scale PROTEUS experiment.

Keynote Presentation Advances in Methods from Monitoring, Modelling to Processes: Spatio-temporal Monitoring (time lapse approaches)

Hosted by Women in Geoscience & Young Professionals EAGE Special Interest Communities

Date:

22 September 2026

Time:

11:10 - 11:50

Room:

Agave

This presentation will explore various possible approaches depending on the processing technique (cross-correlation – auto-correlation) or the studied wavefield (ballistic or coda waves). Highlighting recent advances and limitations, in the detection and quantification of hydrological variations across a range of controlled settings and scales, including laboratory experiments and both short- and long-term field observations. Particular emphasis is placed on the sensitivity of retrieved seismic velocity variations (dv/v) to fluctuations in groundwater levels and changes in the fluid of the unsaturated zone.

Can the Critical Raw Materials Act deliver on its promise?

Join this expert-driven event exploring the Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA) from both European and an Italian case study perspective. This panel will highlight how the CRMA is reshaping geoscientific priorities, affecting exploration, and redefining the link between science and policy. Hear from key stakeholders across institutions, industry, and academia as they debate challenges, share solutions, and highlight what’s next for securing Europe’s critical raw materials future. A must-attend for anyone working at the intersection of geoscience, policy, and strategic resources.

Below the Sustainable Development Goals most aligned with this panel and its objectives:

SDG 4 – Quality Education
Empowering students through exposure to real-world science-policy issues.

SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure
Advancing innovation through multi-stakeholder insights on the European Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA), bridging technical expertise and policy to build future-proof raw material strategies.

SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals
Connecting academia, industry, and policy for shared solutions.
